Tryouts Are Next Week

Here’s Everything You Need to Know

It’s that time of year. Regent tryouts for the 2026/27 playing year kick off next week, and whether your player is stepping onto the field for the very first time or coming back for another season, a little preparation goes a long way.

Here’s the rundown so your player walks in ready.

When Is My Player’s Tryout?

Tryouts run June 1–10 at Reddan Soccer Park, with each age group getting two nights. Girls try out from 4:45–6:15pm and boys from 6:30–8:00pm. Plan on both nights — players are expected to attend each session, which runs about 90 minutes.

Alliance notifications go out June 12. (If your player was born between Aug. 1, 2011 – July 31, 2012 and will be in 8th grade, reach out to us about your options. Any player entering high school plays in the High School program.)

Register Before You Show Up

Tryout registration is open now, and registering online saves you money: it’s $40 (plus processing fees) online versus $80 onsite the day of. One important deadline to circle — online registration closes 24 hours before the first night of your age group’s tryout. Miss that window, and you’ll need to register onsite at the higher rate.

A couple of things worth knowing: tryout registration is separate from program registration, with separate fees. And if your player wants to play Blue, they must be registered and evaluated — even if they can’t make their scheduled tryout dates.

What Tryouts Actually Are

Let’s clear up the biggest source of pre-tryout nerves: tryouts are a placement tool, not a cut. Regent uses the process to place players on the team where they’ll thrive — and every player who registers and is evaluated receives an offer for the upcoming year, whether on a Blue (“competitive”) or Gold (“developmental”) team. The goal is simple: every player has fun, competes, makes friends, and grows their game.

If you’re still weighing Blue versus Gold, the two programs differ in cost and commitment, so it’s worth understanding the difference before you commit. The Gold vs. Blue comparison on our Tryouts page breaks it down.

Day-Of Game Plan

A few simple things make tryout night go smoothly:

Check your PlayMetrics contact info before next week, and add a second parent or guardian as a contact so you don’t miss any updates we send during tryouts.

Arrive about 30 minutes early so your player can settle in and warm up.

Dress for the weather and pack plenty of water, plus sunscreen for those bright June evenings.

Parents, stick around for the Parent Meeting held right as players take the field on the first night. After that, feel free to run errands or wait in the lot — just not on or near the field during the session.

Can’t Make It? You Still Have Options

If your player has a conflict, don’t panic — they still need to be registered and evaluated, and Regent makes every effort to evaluate everyone who wants to play Blue. Flag the conflict during registration by answering the tryout conflict questions, and we’ll arrange an alternate evaluation (often during a practice, a league game, or another age group’s session). If a conflict comes up after you’ve registered, email us right away at regentregistrar@gmail.com.

What Happens After Tryouts

Offer letters arrive via PlayMetrics, with notifications beginning mid-June. Each offer designates a Blue or Gold team and includes a link to register. Once an offer lands, you have 24 hours to accept or decline — so if you’ll be traveling during offer week, designate someone who can respond on your behalf or let the club administrator know your wishes ahead of time.

Accept the offer and you’ll head straight to PlayMetrics to complete registration and payment. Payment plans are available (fees must be paid in full by November 1st), and scholarships are available for eligible players — check the Scholarship page for details.

One heads-up for next year: Fall 2026 starts a new uniform cycle, so all players will need a new uniform for the 2026/27 season, worn through 2027/28.

See You at Reddan

Tryouts are one of the best weeks of the year — a chance to compete, reconnect with teammates, and get excited for the season ahead. Get registered online before your deadline, hydrate, and we’ll see your player on the field next week.
